Press reports, interviews and portraits, plus press releases, invitations and press photos on the work, art and projects of Stephan Graf Bentzel-Sturmfeder.
Since 2008, newspapers, magazines and press releases have followed the work of Stephan Graf Bentzel-Sturmfeder. The archive shows an artist who moves between studio, gallery and unusual venues and always sees art as an occasion for people to meet.
Art and commitment
In 2008 Bunte, Abendzeitung and tz in Munich reported on a vernissage at star hairdresser Gerhard Meir’s salon on Promenadeplatz and on a reception at Galerie Reygers, where his paintings were auctioned for the Order of Malta’s children’s pilgrimage to Lourdes. The proceeds went to sick children.

Galleries and art events
2013 brought the exhibition “Wege” (Paths) at Galerie Robert Weber in Munich, the art event StuttgartONE in Stuttgart’s old music school and an exhibition in Beijing. In 2014 the installation “Herby in the Bath” at the Transfer bar in Erlangen, a homage to David’s “The Death of Marat”, caused a stir; the Erlanger Nachrichten ran the headline “A skeleton relaxes in the bathtub”. The theft of a work made from pieces of the Berlin Wall and shopping trolleys – a piece about the fall of the Wall and consumerism – also made headlines. In the same year he designed the 13th artist label for the Graf Bentzel-Sturmfeder winery. Between 2014 and 2019 he exhibited three times at the Parallel Vienna art fair.
In 2015 he showed 30 works in Berlin in the double exhibition “Bentzel & Rosenzweig” and took part in a group exhibition at Schloss Jägersburg. With the retrospective “20 Years of Art” in the garden pavilion of Schloss Thurn, opened by former Bavarian State Minister Dr Thomas Goppel, he looked back on two decades of painting.

Tragic heroes
After “Blood and Opium” in 2016, failure moved to the centre of his work. The exhibition “Tragic Hero” was shown in 2017 at the Hearthouse gallery on Lenbachplatz in Munich. In Forchheim he opened the town’s first pop-up gallery in the Buchdruckerhaus with 24 works about tragic heroes. The Nordbayerische Nachrichten followed the project for months, from “Art fills empty shops in the town centre” to “Art in the Buchdruckerhaus a complete success”, also asking whether art can revive retail in the town centre. A reading by the author Marian Hajduk and a joint exhibition with Christina Soler and Silvia Wawarta made the gallery a meeting place. In 2018 “Tragic Hero” moved on to the foyer of the Erlangen municipal utilities.

Today
More recent works such as “The Gathering” (2021, 120 × 270 cm) show large-format painting between figuration and abstraction. Today he works in his studio at Schloss Jägersburg; most recently, in 2025, his works were on show at the Foodpark Baiersdorf. What all these stations have in common is the wish to bring art to where people come together: into galleries and castles, empty shops and bars.
